They obviously realize the possibilities of a good social network + good search--they're just not there yet. I hope they get there....

They should index all images so you can search by description, comments, or tags. Same goes for videos, etc. It could adopt digg-style rankings, or items yours friends have shared should show up in search results, at least. When you go to Friends, there could be a VE-powered map of where all your friends are in the world. And VE maps could be embedded into event pages and could show local points of interest. Etc., etc., etc...
