Having said that the first thing anyone in the UK does after installing windows is 'MSN' (the brand name is dieing hard in the UK)

There are ways they could have included a unique Windows Live identifier in the icons rather than this 'ribbon' (or made this yellow 'ribbon' integrated as well as it is in the Internet Explorer application icon...).

I do however think these application icons are still better than the current ones...

It makes the icons look messy.

I hope there is more uniformity for the apps or maybe even the option to swap between the Messenger look, the Win7 look or the ribbon. That way I think everyone will be happy.

re: Windows Live Essentials strikes back – completing the Windows 7 experience

Thank you very much damaster! The new application icons look nice, I think; although maybe a bit too Vista-ish, but I love the yellow 'ribbon'!

One thing that I've noticed is that there are still a lot of UI inconsistencies!! :( Windows Live Messenger I can live with because it needs to have an attractive UI for all the younger teenagers using it, etc. It's a shame we can't have the other programs looking like Windows Live Messenger (with the flair & everything) but because we can't, I love the new Windows Live Mail screenshot in this article - that looks very Windows 7-ish! Very nice. It's a shame Photo Gallery hasn't got this UI in that screenshot - it's still got the current Wave 3 design.

Finally, Windows Live Movie Maker is ridiculous! Not just because of its lack of features (which I'm sure will all come back), but mainly for the UI. I absolutely LOVE the ribbon interface in everything else, but I don't see why they have chosen it for Windows Live Movie Maker? :/ It seems an odd decision as it doesn't follow suit with all the other Windows Live Programs. If Mail, Photo Gallery & Writer had the ribbon then I would welcome it & that would be better, but why only Movie Maker!? Why couldn't Movie Maker look like the Wave 3 versions of Mail & Photo Gallery?

Microsoft really can be stupid sometimes...
