1) 3rd worst shortest product name ever for MS? (After Bob and ME obviously)

2) Worst trying-to-be-kept secret product name ever for MS?

3) Or best-bluff-and-keeping-the-real-product-name-safe-behind-kumo ever for MS?

The reason they should change live search to kumo is that search service is not tied together with other services like skydrive/hotmail/... It pretty much is a standalone service. But the other services make more sense when they come together.

I agree with that they should change live search to kumo. But drop the 'live' prefix of the other services? Come on. Google's services have 'google' in their name like google calendar/google docs/google reader/gmail(sort of)? Why should MS drops 'live' prefix? It gives the information that those services are a whole package. What they should do is get rid of windows, because literally live services doesn't have much to do with windows and windows makes them ridicilously long and awful.

I really hope they change it to Kumo. Windows Live and Live branding is awful. Nobody wants to say such a name in conversation and there goes your word of mouth. Windows Live needs to be pushed back and the services names need to be pushed forward.

Kumo for Search

Skydrive for storage

Hotmail for Mail

Windows Live Photos sucks

Windows Live Messenger sucks

How anyone can say Windows Live is good naming I'll never know. People flock to things like Flickr, Google, because it's quick to say, catchy and obviously good stuff, you need all three, Microsoft have one at best. You can guarantee nobody tells anyone about Windows Live Photos and still call Windows Live Messenger, MSN.

Sticking Windows Live on everything puts off users from using it as they think it's heavily tied to Windows. It doesn't seem open and the way software is going, people want it to be.

Kumo is the way to go.

I don't understand what is wrong with Kumo?

It's short, snappy and even catchy in my opinion.

I wanted a rebrand too, but Kumo is an awful brand name. I can't imagine how they can sell that name to people. If Microsoft can't sell 'Windows Live' how are they going to do Kumo? I might like Microsoft's web stuff less if they do the stupid name. If it were a better and more catchy sounding name, I would love it.

I'm against this. Live is a good name. Of course, they should drop the Windows name from any of it. Live Search is much better then "Windows" Live Search.

Fantastic news! I really hope they rebrand it soon.

It's a shame the search engine can't keep the "Live" name in there somewhere though like just about all of the other Microsoft services...
