Here we can see that worldwide MSN-Windows Live Messenger is taking a big lead, whereas Yahoo! Messenger is taking the lead in the U.S. Google is way behind.
Yahoo ID = Y! Messenger

Live ID = WLM

Once you log in from either client with their associated ID, THEN you can add friends from BOTH sides and talk to them there.

But both IM clients won't utilize the ID of the other. They're still two different companies.

MANY teenagers I know still use AIM as their main IM client. At least here in Texas they do. But I think it's way sucky, just that people are tied because of the amount of friends on there (like MySpace).

And WLM doesn't have a status message? WLM support a large number of choices on how you are at the moment. Where do you guys find that WLM doesn't show you as busy, online, out to lunch, in a call, etc.?

And while it is nice to appear and treat to your friends in a myriad of ways on Y!, I think if you like to avoid them in the first place, delete them.

I still find WLM to be the best single-handed IM client with it's many features that most other IM clients don't do. It's also VERY customizable.

Because I tried to sign in with my Live ID in Yahoo! Messenger for Vista and it wouldn't sign in...
