I agree that MS has done a lackluster job of marketing live, and I'm not sure I see how charging for features that can be freely obtained by other means will change that. I do think MS needs to do more outreach to users to get them interested and excited. Part of the problem is I have a sense that MS doens't really know what they want to do with Windows Live - or at least that's the marketing impression I'm left with.

benscrsibe: it all depends on how Microsoft market it. Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but we've all seen how poor the Windows Live marketing is, I'm just giving a pre-emptive warning so to speak.

Current users won't stop, it'll just cause a bit of an outrage amongst bloggers.

Windows Live really needs an answer to the Google Reader, which is a great product. A Killer service without any alternative, as far as I know.

This is all very promising and I look forward to seeing Live move forward. However, the mere talk of maybe making Windows Live Services something that has to be paid for. Not only will it stall further adoption - it will cause many current users to stop, this one included.

Neat. Didn't know if there'd ever be Live Movie Maker. I can only hope that would be better than WMM (which I just gave up completely!). Though I hope they fix the old Movie Maker name. It's gained an unprofessional connotation for good reasons. Movie Fixer or Movie Editor would be better.

And Live ID's is really something that MS has over the competition. Loved to see that get even better.
