A lot of these "academic and corporate" institutions keep continuing to use IE6. I know my HS still does. I wouldn't say it's "that" bad to use, but it would be really handy to have some of the features that IE7 and other browsers have had for quite awhile. The computers are kinda old at my school, and the only thing they really do is just try to weigh it down with lots of restrictions towards students. So it kinda sucks.

But I rarely ever go on the internet at school, so I'm not missing anything. I hope Microsoft can make a big push towards getting these institutions to take a step higher in this age of tech, and please dump IE6. I think the IT staff is just too lazy to do anything.

That's over 50,000 systems.

There is a plan to roll out the upgrade to IE7 soon, however we have steadfastly rejected moving desktops to Vista. We're basically waiting for Windows 7 and we're not the only ones that I've heard that will refuse to up(down)grade to vista.

It's not just a question of simply rolling it out, as a large number of bespoke applications will be affected by the upgrade. Until we see these organisations upgrading to Windows Vista, I don't see this IE6 usage changing significantly.

Certain functions of webmail and scheduling don't work in IE7. Most campus computers still have IE6, except in the engineering labs. People in the library and english classes are stuck with IE6. Someone needs to tell them to get their asses in line and upgrade and support IE7 +.
