&lt;p&gt;Not true. I've organised Live Events and invited people that don't even have a Live ID, let alone exist in my contacts.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Groups allow multiple users to post up media, ideas, or whatever associated to the thing they like, and you're just associated with the group, not necessarily every member. &lt;/p&gt;
