Thanks, Kip. It'll be nice to know for sure what we can expect in the future. I really hope we do get given the same features as the US preview version.

@JohnCz - I'll agree with all of your points, if we get given the features which were advertised to us all on the DiscoverBing website and which didn't state they were US-only :)

Hell if this isn't an incredibly well-written, honest, down-the-line snapshot of where Microsoft is at this point in time. As Calum wrote, this was a pleasurable read. Loved this post.

Kip, I think you struck a very balanced tone in your report...many reasons to be optimistic but also a doze of skeptism due to past performance. I don't know how you all see things but I believe Microsoft has done a pretty good job in righting its ship. So I can only offer encouragement. If they continue to execute they way they have for the last 6 months or so, I can imagine them possibly coming out this recession with an even stronger "consumer" brand.

I'm really looking forward to Windows Live 'wave 4', now I've heard they're bringing together the desktop software, similar to how they did with the online services.

I have a question about the Bing issue raised here - do you know why some countries have the beta version rather than the full-fledged preview which the United States have? I was extremely disappointed when I checked out Bing today to find that not only do we not have a lot of the features, we don't even have that 'Explore' sidebar on the homepage of Bing :| All of the links to different search types are still above the search box - that's what is annoying me at the moment to be honest, but I'd also like the features we were promised by Microsoft :) No where on the DiscoverBing site did I see it say all these new innovative features were going to be US only :(
