Gates to be transitioned out by July 2008

microsoft.jpgWell, we do not usually write about executive news at Microsoft, but this story is so big that I couldn't help myself. Microsoft announced today that starting in July 2008, Bill Gates will be stepping out of a day to day role at the corporation. He will still be on staff as the Chairman and an advisor on "key projects," but his everyday role will be phased out. Gates has decided to take out time to improve health and education throughout the world through his work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. That leaves three core members of Microsoft's senior leadership, Steve Ballmer, Ray Ozzie, and Craig Mundie. Ozzie and Mundie will be stepping up their roles in the company over the next few years, trying to fill the void left by Gates' departure. We wish Mr. Gates all the best in all his future endeavors and hope that innovation at Microsoft doesn't suffer as a result of his departure. First Scoble, then Bill…who's next? Press Release
