Windows Live in Vista, LiveDrive, and OneCare: catching up on the news

Mary Jo Foley reveals that direct download links for Messenger, OneCare, Live Toolbar, and Desktop Mail are included in the welcome screen of Vista build 5506, rumored to be released to beta testers soon. Bink has a screenshot.

While we've been telling you what Live Drive is and isn't for a while, TechCrunch has a screenshot of a post on msdn talking publically about Live Drive, a first, which explains why the post was taken down.

And in the meantime, Windows Live OneCare, thanks to aggressive pricing and a product that works as well or better than the others on the market, is already at #2, according to CNET. In addition, the rebranded Windows Live OneCare Safety Scanner is available for free in 43 international markets, and OneCare itself will soon be available in beta in international markets, according to the OneCare team blog:

Here's something I've been looking forward to announcing for a long time now. Many blog readers noticed in our initial announcement (around February of this past year) that our initial release was to the US only. Well, you spoke loud and clear that there was international demand for OneCare – and we heard you. Over the past few months we've been working very hard on the international versions of OneCare, and are now ready to tell you that we'll have international betas available by the end of the year, if not sooner, in the following markets: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, and the UK.
