Bing Search: Autosuggest improved, Privacy updates

The Bing team has been working hard to improve search. One of the results is an improved autosuggest. Autosuggest helps you to find what you are looking for faster, often only a couple of keystrokes (first letters) suffice, autosuggest will suggest the rest.

Recently, breaking news and hot trending queries were incorporated within autosuggest. This gets updated every 15 minutes at that! The team’s blog post gives some examples (with screenshots taken from a MS Beta). One of them is how autosuggest helps you to get to the latest news and recent winners of the Golden Globe Awards:

I gave this a go and as you can see only typing “gol” (without quotes) sufficed. Why don’t you give it a go? Please note that this may not work in all markets (oh, how we wish they would post to which they added it).

Wondering about search privacy? Bing’s data retention policy will be changed over the next 12 to 18 months. The amount of time IP addresses from searchers are stored will be brought back from 18 to 6 months. The following schedule shows the new approach:
